As I mentioned earlier, I hope to use a blog in other ways someday, so having two very trademarked names on the title won't work. I an excited to start this new blogging chapter of life.

I've decided to be more intentional about blogging...eventually making blogging something bigger for me than what it has been. (Let's not get into my career mini-crisis right now though!) With that in mind, I'm going to try out a feature I'm calling Found Friday. I am an avid (that is such a better word than obsessive) thrifter. I like the thrill of the hunt and the satisfaction of knowing that nobody (at least anyone I know) will have the same thing. Fridays will now be devoted to displaying recent finds.

I am really excited about this week's find.

This is our living room.

I love the setup, but living in 750ish square feet can be tricky. I feel like our coffee table is too dark and chunky for the space. If only we had something like this to open it up and add brightness to the room...

Well, I found this at SVdP for $14.99 - I had previously seen it marked at $50, but there was so much furniture the price had been SLASHED! (Insert creepy refrigerator salesman - I'm picturing the King and Bunnies guy for all you Seattle folk.)

I'm going to get my hands on some Liquid Leaf and see how things go!

1. Din Tai Fung

Amazing dumplings. A. Maz. Ing.

This restaurant has been highly anticipated since announcing it would open its second restaurant in the entire U.S. in Bellevue. (The other is in L.A.)

Someone wrote in to the Seattle Times complaining that this (world-renowned) restaurant was not opening in Chinatown...ummm...have you been to Bellevue???

Brian and I have eaten here 3 times in the 6 days since it opened (we were pronounced "first regulars" by Mark, the bar manager) and the Juicy Pork Dumplings and Sesame Noodles are to die for. If you want dessert - the Sweet Taro Dumplings (pictured above) are soooo good. NO RESEMBLANCE TO POI! This taro is smaller and naturally sweet so you can feel good knowing you just gorged on root vegetable for dessert.

We can have dinner for 2 with a pot of tea for less than $30. Fabulous. And the 5 minute walk home is just enough to not feel too full by the time we get there.

2. We have a new coffee and wine bar in our building that just opened - and I can't remember the name.

We had coffee there this morning (it was fantastic) and guess what they make daily...that I love...in a flavor-du-jour...MACARONS!

My favorite sweet in the world. Pictured is the giant green tea macaron that B and I shared. It's pure sugar but the slight bitterness of the coffee cuts right through.

Perfection.

One of the big projects for our bedroom was getting more storage into the room. We have a pretty long bedroom so we decided to use dressers as nightstands.

I was inspired by an IKEA Rast redo here, http://aubreyandlindsay.blogspot.com/, but the dresser they used was itty bitty in person and would hardly hold all of B's socks.

So we went with the much larger and more usable Malm 3-drawer chest in medium brown.

We primed and painted the drawer fronts. I ordered ring pulls from Lee Valley Tools. B drilled holes and that was that. Well, there was a quick trip to Tacoma Screw in Kirkland for longer mounting bolts. We were surprised that the total for 12 bolts was $0.95 and since neither of us ever carry cash, the guy gave them to us instead of running a debit card which he said would cost $0.45 anyway.

What do you think? There is one on each side of the bed - we had a new KING SIZE mattress delivered yesterday. I'll have a full bedroom shot once we get a pretty duvet for the new bed. This apartment is really coming along...it's becoming a home.

Perfect post-errands cocktail

Saturday errand running can be a test of patience leaving you thristing for something yummy and bubbly.

So, here's what to do...
A little (an ounce-ish) of Lillet at the bottom of a champagne glass. Top off with champagne and add a twist of lemon. I think the lemon is key.

We had a similar cocktail in Portland, but with St Germain instead of Lillet. It was positively delicious but there was no St Germain in the fridge.

Best thing about this recipe...Lillet can be found in the grocery store. No pesky liquor store trips.

I found this cookie in my purse and was dumbfounded for a moment. Then I remembered our predicament at the new Vovito coffee/gelato place after happy hour at Wild Ginger. The baristo (male barista) rang us up and said "that'll be six dollars and sixty six cents." I wasn't paying all that much attention, but that caught my attention. Quickly I said "hurry - buy a cookie!" The new total was $8.80 which made me think of Becca and was therefore perfectly acceptable.

I used the recipe on epicurious.com from Bon Appetit and I bought my madeleine pans at various thrift stores over the years.

They are delicious as is, but I'm about to make an espresso and they will much better :)

I have only made madeleines once before - years ago. I hope they spread out...it seems like the dough should be a little looser. Oh well...I'll let you know in 16 minutes.

I love it when I have all the ingredients for something when I get a whim to make it. Thank goodness I haven't made Brian's white bean dip yet, or I would not have had lemon zest and then the madeleine pan would have not seen the light of day until probably Christmas time.

I won a $20 gift card from De Vine Wines in Mill Creek Town Center. I correctly identified the four grapes in a red blend during a blind taste test (i.e. wrote down a bunch of grapes that I have seen in blends before and got lucky). There were 5 wines to taste and each one had 3-4 grapes in the blend.

The wine I won with had merlot, cabernet sauvingnon, syrah, and petite verdot. Lucky guess right??? We are planning to purchase a bottle of this particular wine when it comes in next Thursday as it was all out when I redeemed my gift card.

I'll let you know what it is.

This was my response once tasting my homemade chicken wings. I love buffalo wings...spicy ones...with lots of celery and blue cheese...and beer...so drippy and saucy that you have grab your beer with both palms because it's too much work to clean off both thumbs and index fingers just to take a sip.

I found this recipe while Brian and I searched for "best chicken wings in seattle" on google. Thank you Seattle Wingman.

I used Franks regular sauce...not their wingsauce. I also used a packet of Sloppy Joe seasoning because I couldn't find the packet Wingman suggested.I also had no honey. Oh well. It was yummy and baked (not fried) and so good. Best part - since the wings are cooked before being sauced, so you could use BBQ or Teriyaki sauce instead of hot sauce if you're a wuss ;)

How long until the Superbowl??? I'm bringing the wings!

I attempted my first Molten Chocolate Cakes last night... They were so rich and scrumptious. I served it with strawberries and mint (that were already in the fridge - I'm not that on top of it) and coffee ice cream. Yum!

Here's the recipe if you want to try:

What You Need!
4 squares BAKER'S Semi-Sweet Chocolate
1/2 cup (1 stick) butter
1 cup powdered sugar
2 eggs
2 egg yolks
6 Tbsp. flour

Make It!
PREHEAT oven to 425°F.
Butter four 3/4-cup custard cups or soufflé dishes.
Place on baking sheet.
MICROWAVE chocolate and butter in large microwaveable bowl on HIGH 1 min. or until butter is melted.
Stir with wire whisk until chocolate is completely melted.
Stir in sugar until well blended. Blend in eggs and egg yolks with wire whisk.
Stir in flour.
Divide batter among prepared custard cups.
BAKE 13 to 14 min. or until sides are firm but centers are soft.
Let stand 1 min.
Carefully run small knife around cakes to loosen.
Invert cakes onto dessert dishes. Serve immediately, topped with whipped topping.

How to Bake Cakes in Muffin Cups
Prepare batter as directed; pour evenly among ten paper-lined medium muffin cups.
Bake at 425ºF for 10 min. or until sides are firm but centers are soft. Let stand 1 min. Makes 10 servings.

Make Ahead
Batter can be made a day ahead. Prepare batter as directed; pour into prepared custard cups. Cover with plastic wrap. Refrigerate up to 24 hours. Let stand at room temperature 1 hour before baking as directed.

I never followed up on my trip to Nordstrom Rack after the "Pleather" sign sighting. I had wanted this sweater when it was full price ($68) at Nordys a while ago. It was at the Rack for $15!! I said $15!! Now one might think that this would deter me - I mean if no one was willing to pay full price or Nordys sale price and it sat long enough to get to the Rack, it must be unworthy, right? No!! I realize that I am a what you might call "risky" in the fashion dept, so I accept that there are many items that I love that people wouldn't buy.

Anyway - I love this blush pink, openwork, long cardy with obnoxiously gold buttons and I love it with my orange shirt and shoes even more! Thanks Rack and thanks to all those who passed it by.

Whoa - I didn't know that ramble was in me when I went to write this.

I made some yarn pom-poms and turned them into dandelions and a flower.

I had bought the frog to use in a photo shoot (the WELCOME comes off), but have since decided not to use him. So, before returning him...I gave him a little photo shoot of his own. The stones on my porch wall reminded me of a castle wall. Perfect place for a frog prince.

I found a pattern to make this “extreme scarf” on the Lion Brand website. They claim it is “not for the faint of heart.” The directions are to hold 4 strands of super chunky yarn together as you go and knit until the piece is 15 feet long!! I can just imagine myself in a rocking chair, with 15 feet of knitting piled up next to me. No matter how ridiculous…I still want one! The only drawback (besides the obvious) is the cost of the yarn. Even Lion Brand (which is known for its small price tag) adds up when you need 20 skeins of $7 yarn.

I took my virus-ridden laptop to the Geeks at Best Buy to be sanitized today. Lucky for me, I live next door to the library. I super love the library! Funny thing is - I don't really read that much - I just love books. I am quite the juxtaposition.

So, here I sit. 41 minutes and 16..15..14 seconds left on my hour limit at computer 111. As I read all my favorite blogs (as I do every night) I found a link to a "make your own conversation hearts" site. I have a love-hate relationship with these candies. I love Valentine's Day (yes, even as a single girl). I think it's all the pink and the feeling that Spring is coming. Plus, remember the super fun Valentine's Day parties you had in elementary school when everyone in the class gave out valentines and you got lots of candy?? I still get to do that and it's still fun. Back to the conversation hearts...I buy them every year and I eat them every year, but I don't like the taste of them. They are quite disgusting and make my mouth feel funny afterward. I'm officially sticking to SweetTart Hearts next year.

So, I walk into the house to watch the kids today while their parents go to a Superbowl party. Cece sees me and says "Mama, Kim is home!"

All I could do was laugh. Laugh at the cuteness of her and patheticness of my social life. Equally.

BTW...I did some little photoshoots with the kiddos this weekend. This one of C, is one of my absolute faves. What a doll!

When I walked into Whole Foods, I had every intention of cooking a grown up dinner of pork tenderloin tacos with pineapple salsa (which they make in-store and is amazing!) But somehow I wandered down the baking aisle (I think i was looking for tortillas) and one thing led to another, yadda yadda yadda, I had waffles for dinner. I ate a whole wheat waffle with peanut butter, banana, walnut and maple syrup. There was bacon involved too - let's not pretend i'm all healthy with the whole wheat...

I knew I owned a waffle maker (that I finally found above the dryer) I had never used. Yeah - it was a wedding present - still reeping the benefits from that little phase in my life ;) I got the hang of it and ate the third waffle I made. Stay tuned for the oops photo. Happy weekend everyone! May you be inspired to eat dinner like a five year old as well.

Woke up this morning feeling like hell. Walking like a hunchback...just want to get back in the fetal position. Girls - you know what I mean, right?

Well, I put on my highlighter scarf I bought in Victoria with Mom. I figure the color has to be mood lifting like the sun. We'll see. Drugs may have been more effective.

Every five years, the Junior League of Seattle votes on a new focus area. Right now it's "Foster Care and After School Programs." On Tuesday night, we voted on a new focus for the next five years. I stole the following from a fellow JL'er, but I found it interesting and wanted to share...

Why is "Empowerment of Woment and Children" the Junior League of Seattle's new focus?

Here are the heartbreaking statistics. Did you know?

*In 2009, the FBI listed Seattle as the #1 city of underage prostitution out of 29 cities they investigated in a cross country sting.

*Seattle is the #4 city in the U.S. for incidences of Trafficking in Persons due to the ports, the I-5 corridor, and the border proximity.

*After drug dealing, human trafficking ties with arms dealing as the second largest criminal industry and is the fastest growing

*In 2006 in the City of Seattle, there were over 500 incidences per 100,000 people for a major and minor domestic violence crime

*One report estimates that more than 2.5 million females experience some form of violence each year

*1 in 6 women have experience an attempted or completed rape and 1/3 of women murdered were killed by their intimate partner

*Boys who witness domestic violence are twice as likely to abuse their own partners and children when they become adults

*Most cases of domestic violence are never reported to police

Through advovacy, fundraising, and community work, hopefully, we can have an impact.

Spring break mug shot or extra passport photo I have had stuck to my fridge for the last year?

If I didn't know better, I would have guessed mug shot after being arrested in some uber-tropical locale. I have NEVER looked that tan - EVER! In fact - the woman at the Laura Mercier counter yesterday called my skin color "transluscent." I believe the foundation color I left with is called Porcelain Ivory. Why not just call it "Burns in less than 5 minutes?"

Yes. I know. I have already curly hair, but I've been wondering if some hot rollers would soften some of the curl and give me another style. So, I'm spending my friday night experimenting. I have to babysit a ton tomorrow, so I thought a night in would be best. I also have Casablanca from Netflix. I have never seen it but we'll see if I sit still long enough to watch it.

I'll let you know how the hair works out.

Good news & Bad News

Good news is I am wearing a blanket to work. Found this sweater half off at target last night and had to wear it today. I do have jeans on - not leggings so I don't look quite as frumpy as I could, but I am soooo comfy. Considering the lack of heat in my classroom - I feel totally justified.

Bad news came from the radio. The weatherman said that today will be the wettest of the whole week. It has already been a super rainy week. The he said tomorrow will be showers with the rain returning sunday. Returning?? Are you saying showers are now the opposite of rain? Ugh. Then he said it will rain for the next 40 days and nights and I should begin work on an ark.

Best news: its friday and a 3 day weekend!

No more sleeping in. By December, I had let my 6:00am wake up time drift for up to 40 minutes. I don't like going to work feeling rushed and unkempt, but I LOVE sleep. The other side of the coin is that I need to go to bed earlier. I figure after a few nights of 5.5 hours of sleep, I will be forced to go to bed earlier. If not - there's always Nyquil :)
